Author: Dr. S. Kiran Singh
ISBN: 978-81-941839-1-4
Language: English

About the Book:
The Government
of India adopted various policies and programs for the development of adult
education in the country and in all states through different agencies namely
state government, voluntary agencies and universities for eradication of
illiteracy in our country. Keeping this in view, the program for removal of
illiteracy in Manipur has been taken up under three pronged approaches, i.e.
Directorate of Adult Education, Government of Manipur, Voluntary Agencies and Department
of Adult Continuing Education and Extension, Manipur University. These three
agencies enrolled for eradication of illiteracy since 1953-54 although from
different directions under different management system and control under
different approaches.
The progress of
adult education programme in Manipur had little significance during 1954 to
1979, although there was impact of National Adult Education Programme (NAEP), 1978
with three components of literacy, functionality and awareness. As such,
Directorate of Adult Education, Government of Manipur started taking up various
programs for eradication of illiteracy since 1980 while Manipur University had
implemented the programs since 1986. The voluntary agencies in Manipur had also
started taking up programs on eradication of illiteracy since 1973.
The book
entitled “Adult Education in Manipur” is an attempt to explore the various
roles played by the implementing agencies of adult education like Directorate
of Adult Education, Government of Manipur, Voluntary Agencies and Department of
Adult Continuing Education and Extension, Manipur University. The book aims at
improving the strategies of implementation of adult education programme to meet
the real need of the target group in improving the quality of adult education. And,
it is hoped the adult education planners, policy makers, functionaries,
